As you all know that the current Chief Justice of India "U U Lalit" retired on 8th November. U U Lalit became the 49th Chief Justice of India on 27 August. His term is 75 days.
Justice DY Chandrachud is the senior most after the CJI. Traditionally, Chief J Iustice Lalit would recommend Justice Chandrachud's name.
If Justice Chandrachud assumes office on November 9, his tenure will be around 2 years. Justice DY Chandrachud is the son of former Chief Justice of India Justice YV Chandrachud.
